Sump Pump Warranty Coverage

Sump pumps are a preventive tool that regulates water levels in your basement, helping you avoid the consequences of excess water. They remove water from the basement and channel it away from the home. Like any device, sump pumps are subject to wear and tear, so how can you safeguard your sump pump to ensure it protects your home?

At *Cinch Home Services, homeowners can find several home warranties covering major appliances and systems. Our Built-In Systems Plan and our Complete Home Plan covers four major home systems and their components, including permanently installed sump pumps (groundwater only).

In addition to protecting your sump pump, a home warranty extends coverage to other systems susceptible to damage. Learn more about our home warranty for sump pumps.

Sump Pump Warranty

Why getting a home warranty covering your sump pump is worth it

For homeowners in areas with a high risk for flooding, sump pumps are non-negotiable. Investing in a sump pump pales in comparison to the costs of repairing a damaged basement, not to mention recovering lost or damaged items. Even if you live in a region less prone to flooding, it might be worth getting a sump pump. Moisture buildup may increase the risk of mold, which has implications for human health.

According to the Standard Estimated Life Expectancy Chart for Homes from the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI), the average life expectancy of a sump pump is seven years. This equals about 100,000 cycles. The standard manufacturer's warranty is three to five years. Given the average life expectancy of sump pumps, this means your unit could likely outlast its warranty.

What happens during those few years when your sump pump isn’t covered? A study from Angi finds that the average cost of sump pump replacement ranges from $308 to $749. You could end up responsible for the entire cost unless you consider an alternative to the standard sump pump manufacturer’s warranty.

A home warranty may cover all major sump pump brands and models

Standard sump pump warranties are limited in more ways than time. The typical manufacturer warranty comes when you purchase a sump pump and helps cover repairs or replacement costs for material or workmanship defects that cause breakdowns. However, this could exclude general wear and tear and other causes of damage.

Third-party extended warranties offer additional coverage against mechanical failures or other malfunctions not covered under the original manufacturer's warranty.

Home warranties also help cover all major makes, while manufacturer or extended warranties might be limited to one brand or even model. Some common sump pump brands a home warranty may cover include:

  • Basement Watchdog
  • ECO-FLO
  • Flotec
  • Liberty Pumps
  • Little Giant
  • Red Lion Pump
  • Simer
  • Superior Pump
  • WAYNE Pumps
  • Zoeller Pump Company

How does a home warranty for sump pump coverage work?

With the risk of flooding high in many areas, homeowners can’t afford to rely on limited manufacturer or extended warranties. A sump pump home warranty offers greater assurance your device works well to keep excess water out of the basement. Cinch Home Services provides easy access to home protection plans that include coverage for sump pumps with our three-step process:

Step 1: Choose the right home protection plan

Our Built-in Systems Plan is an ideal option for covering the cost of most repairs – and even replacements – on permanently installed sump pumps (groundwater only). This plan covers1 essential systems within your home for a monthly fee that fits your budget. With the Built-in Systems Plan, you have peace of mind that your sump pump is covered, regardless of make/model or age1.

This home protection plan helps cover other systems including:

  • Other Plumbing Systems
  • Heating and Cooling
  • Electrical Systems
  • Additional Plan Inclusions

Another option is our Complete Home Plan. This home protection plan is our most popular choice and helps cover major home appliances and built-in systems. You can get the most comprehensive assurance with a complete home warranty.

1 All plan subject to terms, conditions and limitations in your service agreement. Deductible due at time of service request and is separate from the plan premium. Non-covered charges, unit caps and dollar amount caps may apply. Covered items must be in good working order as of your service agreement effective date.

Step 2: Request service 24/7

Once you select a plan and enroll, your home protection plan becomes active on the effective date. When your covered sump pump breaks down, simply request service online anytime through My Account.

Step 3: Get matched with a service provider

Once you submit a claim, Cinch Home Services selects an expert from our network of vetted service providers who can best resolve your issue. Every service provider we refer has undergone extensive pre-screening, including license checks and verification of active liability insurance, among other criteria. We use customer feedback to continuously monitor service provider performance to ensure homeowners receive top-notch service. Your sump pump system will be back up and running in no time.

With a home protection plan from Cinch Home Services, you won’t have to worry about juggling multiple manufacturer and extended warranties. Instead, you have one contract for all your home’s essential systems.

How soon can you submit a sump pump home warranty claim with a Cinch Home Services plan?

Depending on the plan, your effective date may be different from your enrollment date. There will be a waiting period until you can request service. Your customer service associate will indicate when your coverage begins before completing enrollment, and your confirmation email and plan documents will specify the effective date.

Once your plan goes into effect, you can contact Cinch 24/7 with service needs. Before submitting a claim, review your service agreement to ensure the repair or replacement is covered. You can make as many service requests as you need, up to any caps on your plan. The cap is the maximum a home protection plan will pay for repairs and replacements during the coverage period, and caps may vary by plan.

What does the sump pump home warranty cover?

The standard sump pump home warranty typically covers its various components under certain circumstances. Your warranty might cover:

  • Sump pump motor: Repair/replacement of motor due to malfunctions or breakdowns.
  • Sump pump switch: Repair/replacement of switch failures.
  • Check valve: Repair/replacement of check valve to ensure proper water flow.
  • Discharge hose: Repair/replacement in case of discharge line issues.

Be sure to review the terms and conditions of the service agreement to understand the extent of your coverage.

How do I file a claim?

Once your home protection plan goes into effect, you can request service for covered repairs and replacements.

When you notice a problem with your sump pump, review your coverage to ensure you can make a claim. Contact Customer Service at (844) 324-5688 or request service online through My Account. Once we process the claim, we’ll coordinate with the service provider to contact you and schedule a service date.

How quickly are home warranty claims processed and resolved?

Service providers strive to resolve problems as quickly as possible, but completion times may vary depending on the claim. The extent of a repair or replacement might dictate how fast a claim is resolved. If new parts are required, this might also extend the completion time.

Is there a deductible or are any fees involved?

Yes, your deductible is your share of a covered repair or replacement. Typically, deductibles are collected at the time of your service request. Service providers will not collect payments at appointments. Deductibles don’t include non-covered charges or amounts over caps and limitations that may apply. Most of our home protection plans offer several options for deductibles, allowing homeowners to choose according to their budgets.

Is emergency service available under the home warranty?

Some sump pump warranties may cover the costs of emergency repair jobs. Check your service agreement to understand your coverage.
